Collaboration Among Professionals
Objective #2: Advance Interprofessional Education and Interprofessional Collaborative Practice (IPE/IPP)
Interprofessional Education and Collaboration Events
Seton Hall University has shared the importance of Interprofessional Education and Collaboration among its School of Health and Medical Sciences. During my time at Seton Hall I have attended numerous events that allowed me the opportunity to work alongside physical therapists, occupational therapists, athletic trainers, physician’s assistants and pharmacists. As a cohesive and knowledgeable team we collaborated through case studies and developed the best plan of care for a mock patient and the importance of interprofessionalism.
Clinical Application of Interprofessionalism
During my graduate coursework and externships, I have participated in collaborative and interdisciplinary assessment and intervention. I have been an active and participating member of a team that have included professionals such as: occupational therapists, physical therapists, physicians, registered nurses, neuropsychologists, social workers, special educators and fellow speech – language therapists. An example of this is my time at Staten Island University Hospital where I collaborative and communicated with a variety of medical professionals on a daily basis. This forced me to advocate not only for patient’s care, but also myself as a speech-language pathologist and the services we provide to improve a patient’s quality of life.
